Biography

Vincenzo di Carlo, son of Gioachino di Carlo and Domenica Campagna, is born 1 June and baptized on 11 June 1898 in Corleone. His godparents are Antonino and Rosa di Carlo, brother and sister, both unmarried.[1]

Vincenzo's father is a borgese, a landowner, in Corleone.

According to a family history compiled by one of Vincent's second cousins, Giacomo and Domenica immigrate to New York around 1900 and return to Corleone before 1939. (Vincent's youngest sister, Nunzia, is born in Corleone in 1901, according to the same researcher.) Two of Vincent's brothers, Giuseppe and Antonino, also immigrate and settle in California, while Vincent and his brother, Salvatore, settle in Texas.[2]

According to the record of his death, Vincent lives in Dallas, Texas, from around 1917.

Vincent Di Carlo of 1618 McCoy, Dallas, TX, age 20, born 1 June 1898, registers for the draft for WWI. Born in Italy. He is a barber, self employed at 214 S. Houston, Dallas, TX. Vincent marries Maria Francesca D'Alessio. She is also called Marion. They have at least one child, James (1920).

James is born in the Baptist Sanitarium in Dallas, Texas on 10 December 1920, the legitimate son of Vincent DiCarlo, 22, a barber, born in Corleone, Italy, and his wife is Marrion DiAlessi, 21, born in Donaldsonville, LA. They live at 3302 San Jacinto, Dallas, TX.[4]

In the 1930 federal census of Dallas, TX, taken 7 April at 2712 Washington St, there are two families, Howell A. Rayburn and Vincent J. Di Carlo. Vincent lives with his wife, Marion, and son, James. The Rayburn family rents and the Di Carlos own their home, worth $2850. Vincent is 31 (b. 1898-9: a match), born in Italy, and married when he was 20 (abt 1919). His wife, Marion, is 30 (b. 1899-1900), born in Louisiana of Italian parents. Their son, James, is 9 (b. 1920), born in Texas. Vincent owns a barber shop.[5]

Before his death, Vincent and his son, who are both called James, own a grocery together in south Dallas. They open another grocery together in 1966 in east Dallas, called Jimmy's Food Store.[6]

Vincent di Carlo dies on 13 May 1967 in Dallas, TX, where he lived for 50 years (since 1917). He was born in Italy on 1 June 1898. He was a naturalized citizen. He was in the grocery business.
